Kumanoyu(熊の湯)②| Outdoor Hot Spring in a Mountain | Rausu, Shiretoko

I'm Rausu in the Shiretoko peninsula in a world heritage site as well as Shiretoko national park! Today I'll show you "Kumanoyu(熊の湯)", one of my favorite outdoor hot spring in a mountain! See! It's very natural and relaxing↓

(*This pic↓ was taken by my friend last August when we visited here. The spa for men doesn't have any wall and more beautiful than women's.)

Anyway, I'll show you pics taken this time from now on↓

I stayed in Rausu Daiichi Hotel as usual. As I love the outdoor hot spring, I got up at 5 am, jogged around here, and took the natural spa in a mountain!

I really love jogging! Actually I didn't have to get up that early, but I really wanted to see sunrise in this area!

Look at this! It's beautiful!

It's rising! I was very impressed with the wonderful natural phenomena!

It takes only 15 - 20 minutes from the hotel to the hot spring. Just go straight on Route. 334, and

you will see smoke on your left like this↓

When you find the sign,

please cross Ideyu bridge(いでゆ橋), which means a hot spring bridge.

From the bridge, you can enjoy the wonderful nature! There's no word to express such perfect scenery!!!

After crossing the first bridge, please cross the short one. You'll see the hot spring!

As I said, the hot spring area for men does NOT have any walls, you can fully enjoy the nature! I really envy all gentlemen!!! But if you are nervous about the situation, please enjoy other natural hot spring! Hahaha!

On the other hand, this is for women's! There are high walls and

a changing room like this!

Before entering the natural spa, please read 10 rules to take this hot spring!

  1. Read the note before taking the hot spring
  2. Before taking it, wash your body and rinse your body twice or three times.
  3. If you feel the water hot, try to soak your body step by step once, twice and tree times.
  4. If you still feel the water hot, ask other guests whether it is OK to cool the water or not. If they say OK, please dilute it with cold water.
  5. Never bring alcohol to the area.
  6. Do not wear a swimming suit when you take the hot spring.
  7. After you cool the water, make sure to stop cooling water even if you are alone in the tub.
  8. The hot spring is drinkable.
  9. When local people clean the area, you are kindly requested to help them.
  10. Please repeat taking it, warm and refresh your body.

There's another notice, saying please be careful about wildlife! The wildlife means brown bears!!! So please come here during the day time!

This is a natural hot spring!

I love 100% pure natural hot spring like this!

The water contains sulfur, sodiumchloride and so on..... that makes your skin more smooth and you yourself relaxed! Perfect!

The local citizens clean this area every day and you don't have to think about the hygiene problem! Thank you very much, Shiretoko residents!!!

The abundant water is flowing into the stone tub, but don't touch it!

It is over 80℃!

You can hear the water gushing out from the ground! How exciting!!!

Unfortunately or fortunately, ladies' space has high walls and we cannot see the nature very well, but please look up to the sky! It's very soothing!

It is basically free of charge, but I always donate small amount of money to thank the local people for keeping this area very comfortable!

I love this surrounding nature!

I enjoyed the hot spring for 1 hr (actually I was alone for the 1 hr!!! How lucky I was!!), and walked to our hotel very slowly! I love Shiretoko! I love Kumanoyu!!!!

Me too! I love Kuma-no-yu - i've been there twice now, it really feels like a little local spa where the water is gushing out naturally and the local people have set up the changing area and a few modesty walls....onsen at its most basic.
The camp site near here is where a bear appeared a few years ago and knocked on the tent of a family....the teenage girl thought it was her sister playing around and she KICKED at the bear!!!!

She KICKED at the bear!!! Hahaha!!!
I also love this spa! Whenever I come to this area, I get up early, jog around this site, and enjoy the spa for a while!
I really enjoyed Shiretoko this time, too, although this is not a private trip♨♨

These are what I like about Japan: beautiful hot springs, warm hospitality and affordable accommodation. I wish I could go there to refresh and rejuvenate myself.
