Rausu Visitor Center (羅臼ビジターセンター)| Shiretoko

When you come to Rausu town in Shiretoko, I recommend to visit Rausu Visitor Center first to get tourist and wildlife information.

Let's enter it!

Several zoological specimens of local wildlife are displayed in this facility. For example...........

a HUGE killer whale↓ and

a brown bear

Do you know which is a bear?? Just kidding! Hahaha!!!
You may encounter wild brown bears in Shiretoko area, so the facility gives the visitors the bear appearance information. You can check when and where brown bears have appeared in and around this area.

Other than two animals, you can see a HUGE seal,

a Steller's Sea Eagle and so on..............

The center has a lecture room and you can learn Shiretoko national park and a world natural heritage site in a big screen.
Shiretoko was designated as a national park in 1964, and as world natural heritage site in 2005.

They sell thier original souvenir goods like towels, bottles and so on..... and the sales is used to conserve the nature in this area.

I bought some post cards here!

Hi, do you know if there is some place we can deposit our luggage in Rausu while we explore the area? Many thanks!
