Shibazakura (Moss Pink) Flowers | Takinoue Park (滝上公園) as of 2011/05/18

I'm in Takinoue with my tour guets today.

The Shibazakura (Pink Moss) Festival is one of the most unique and colorful festivals on the Hokkaido flower calendar. Winding paths lead you across a surreal pink and purple hillside overlooking Takinoue town.

Every year from early May to early June, Takinoue Park is covered with a carpet of Shibazakura which started from the equivalent of a single tangerine box filled with seedlings. These flowers have spread and grown every year and now cover an area of 100,000 square meters. .

The backside of the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range offers its pointy snow-covered peaks as a backdrop and tulips adorn the the wide gently-sloped paths on your journey across the hill.

A short distance to the right of the upper car-par you'll find food and drink stalls, playground equipment, tables and benches and a stage featuring music and dance performances.

♪Moss pink soft ice cream♪
All in all, this is a great place to spend a few hours and take some great photos before moving on to other sightseeing spots in the area.

Actually I'll come back here with my other tour guests next week, too. I'll update the latest flower pics after the second visit here in this flower season! Plz wait!

Hi KK,

Enjoy your review on Shibuzakura in Takinoue.

Please tell me which is better - Shibuzakura in Abashri or Takinoue in your experience?

Thanks

Hi! Well, well, well, this is a difficult question, but personally I prefer Takinoue. If you have time, you can visit both of them and compare with each other!!

Hi KK

Thanks for the reviews above :)

I'd like to ask,
If i go to Hokkaido in spring (around mid april) can i still viewing flower field blossoms like the one above or lavender fields in furano?

And if i want to tour to takinoue park from sapporo, should i stay overnight there or can i arrange it to one day tour?

Many thanks in advance
Mchan ^^

Unfortunately, we cannot enjoy moss pink nor lavender fields in April.......
The best season for moss pink is from early May to early June, and for lavenders is July.
You don't have to stay overnight there to enjoy the flowers!
Have a wonderful time in Hokkaido♪

Hello K.K,
My family will stay in Asahikawa on 30 May - 31 May 2014. We plan to go to Takinoue, Furano, Biei and some sightseeing at Ashidake Onsen. Can all these places be covered in a single day?

K.K. said...

>Marcusay
It's possible, but if I were you, I'd use two days for four places, because all of them are so attractive that I want to stay each place for longer hours.

There is a bus service from Sapporo to Takinoue.

Hello K.K, thank you very much for your response!
Between Mt Ashidake and Mt Usu, which one would be preferable for sightseeing in late May? As in having better scenery and photo-opportunities..

K.K. said...

>Marcusay
I think Mt. usu is more preferable for sightseeing in late Many. When you go there, please enjoy Lake Toya, too!

Thank you for your advice K.K!
