Asari Main Restaurant (阿佐利本店)| Sukiyaki Restaurant | Hakodate

Hakodate (函館) may remind you of fresh seafood, but it has a wonderful sukiyaki restaurant, too. Take a street car, and get off the train at Horaicho (宝来町).

You will find "Asari Main Restaurant (阿佐利本店)", a traditional sukiyaki restaurant, founded in 1901, neat the station.

Let's enter it! Going through the corridor, looking at the Japanese garden,

I arrived at this private room! How Japanese it is! This building was originally constructed in Noheji (野辺地), Aomori Prefecture, as a summer villa, and reconstructed here in Hakodate in 1934.

As I love beef very much, I ordered a "Matsu (松コース)", the most expensive sukiyaki course with A5 ranked Japanese Black beef (黒毛和牛)! Sounds yummy x 2!!! Hahaha!

Are you ready?
You don't have to prepare for the dish. A restaurant staff will do everything.
Just for reference, they have an English menu! Perfect!

Voila!
This is A5 ranked beef, a highest rank of Wagyu beef!!!

How marble it is!

The lady put the ingredients on the pan like this, and

cooked it for a while. Smells very appetizing!!!

As I'm a carnivore (?!), I ate it rare! Yummy yummy in my tummy!!! The fat is very sweet!!!

You can choose rice or kishimen noodles (きしめん) for the set, and I ordered of course kishimen, because ..........

the noodles can absorb very delicious beef and vegetable juice like this!
Wow! Wow! Wow!

Last but not least, I enjoyed sherbet.

I had a perfect lunch today!

Sushizen Main Restaurant (すし善本店)| Booked for a Party | Sapporo

"Sushizen Main Restaurant (すし善本店)" is an authentic and traditional sushi bar on the Michelin Guidebook Hokkaido (ミシェランガイドブック北海道), and the chief chef is selected as one of the three greatest sushi chefs in Japan.
The other day I booked the restaurant, and had a birthday party for one of my tour guests.

If it's available, we can fully book the detached restaurant house for ourselves only. Perfect!

This is a surprise party that a wife of a tour member and I planed secretly!! He was so happy to find the banner above the chefs!
"Happy birthday, Mr. ○○!!"

Chefs cook meals just in front of us! We were so excited to see them cook beautifully.

Cheers!

Everything is very sophisticated. The crab was carefully selected.

I ordered seasonable sashimi only, including chutoro (中トロ) caught off Ooma (大間), a very expensive brand tuna.

By the time we enjoyed the brilled yellowtail, we switched champagne to sake (日本酒).

Sake really goes well with Japanese dishes!!!

A big and sweet scallop is covered with very fluffy egg! Yummy x 2!!!

The high-quality hairy crab made us drink sake more! Hahaha!

While they made sushi, we sang "Happy Birthday", and enjoyed dancing here. As the house is separated to the main restaurant, we could fully enjoy the special day!

Actually I asked the main chef to make the sushi, because as I mentioned, he is selected as one of the three greatest sushi chefs in Japan!

The conger sushi was served while it was hot! Sounds professional, doesn't it?

Last but not least, we enjoyed this green tea mouse, and a birthday cake!

"Sushizen Main Restaurant (すし善本店)" is an authentic sushi bar and naturally expensive, but when you come here during the lunch hours, the sushi sets are served reasonably.

Japanese Restaurant Sobadokoro Izumo (和風れすとらん そば処 出雲)| Soba restaurant | Teshikaga (弟子屈)

I love to find delicious soba noodles restaurants throughout Hokkaido! After visiting Lake Mashu (摩周湖) and Mt. Iou (硫黄山), how about dropping by "Japanese Restaurant Sobadokoro Izumo (和風れすとらん そば処 出雲)"?

*If you are interested in Lake Mashi and Mt. Iou, please refer to my other posts!

This is a very popular soba restaurant among local people, and always packed with soba lovers especially during the lunch hours.

They serve hot and cold soba and udon, and I ordered .....................

Tenzaru (天ざる), cold soba with tempura! Looks yummy x 2!!!

Their soba has distinctive aroma, and appropriately thin so that we can enjoy the feeling of soba going down our throat!

I really recommend their tempura, too. Especially their prawn tempura is super delicious!!!

My guest ordered oyster soba (かきそば). It is hard to see plump oysters below the seaweed, but they are soooooooooooo great! Should I have ordered this soba?? Hahaha!

Hanakazuki (花かずき)| Japanese Restaurant | Former Aoyama Villa (貴賓館)

My guests and I went to the Former Aoyama Villa (旧青山別邸 or 貴賓館), an important cultural property of Japan, located in Otaru (小樽) the other days.

So-called Herring Mansion is a symbol of herring fishing in the 19th to 20th century, born out of a dream of 17-year-old Masae Aoyama (青山 政恵). Masakichi Aoyama (青山 政吉), his farther and herring billionaire, hired Nenosuke Saito, a chief Imperial carpenter, directing 40 carpenters, plasterers  and joiners to construct this villa. It is very gorgeous, but used during the summer time only!!!
If you are interested in this cultural asset, please refer to my other post→click here!

Well, well, well, we were so hungry that we dropped by "Hanakazuki (花かずき)", a Japanese restaurant adjacent to this mansion.

I love this atmosphere! Look at this Byobu (屏風), Japanese folding screen! How fantastic it is!!

They also have a table room like this↓ While enjoying kimono or a beautiful peony garden out of big windows, guests can have a wonderful lunch time!!

Voila!
One of my guests ordered this seafood bowl (三色丼)! Otaru reminds us of fresh seafood!

The tea cup has a peony design. Yes, we can appreciate a lot of pretty peonies, Masae's favorite flowers, in full bloom, from May to July in their garden.

The other guest ordered a soba and herring sushi set (にしん棒寿司とかけそば).

Herring roe just under the top herring meat is a great accent for the sushi! Crunchy x 2!!!

I ordered a "Herring box lunch (にしんお重)"↓

Herring cooked with soy sauce is very tender and delicious!! Yummy x 2!!

The set comes with local fresh sashimi! Bravo!!

We had a wonderful time in Otaru, an historical city in Hokkaido!

Sukiyaki Sanyoshiya (すき焼き三光舎)| Sukiyaki Restaurant | Asahikawa

Today I'll show you "Sukiyaki Sanyoshiya (すき焼き三光舎)", a long-standing sukiyaki restaurant founded in 1917 in Asahikawa.

They use high-quality beef for sukiyaki like↓ It is expensive at night, but we can enjoy it at reasonable prices during the lunch hours!

I chose a Japanese room. How lovely it is!

As I love beef, I ordered the most expensive set! Hahaha!

Matuzakaushi (松坂牛) is the king of beef in the world, isn't it? I love it!

Voila!
Here comes "Spacial beef sukiyaki set (スペシャル牛すき焼き定食)"↓ Yummy x 2!!

Look at the wonderful marbled beef!!! Super-great!

You must envy me! Hahaha!

The clerk here cooked it for me. She is very friendly and polite, and we had a wonderful time!!

Wow! Wow! Wow!
I didn't have to bite it! It was melted immediately I put it in my mouth! It was unbelievably delicious♪

The vegetables absorbed the delicious beef juice!!

Last but not least, I put kishimen noodles into the pan so that the noodles could soak up the delicious essence of beef and vegetables!!!

We were so happy to eat such  a delicious sukiyaki today!

Just for reference, they serve a reasonable sukiyaki set (1,200 yen ~)↓

and a pork sukiyaki set (1,100 yen), too↓
