Koya (古屋)| Izakaya Restaurant | Susukino (すすきの)

If you want to enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken) and oden (Japanese winter dish consisting of several ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon radish, konnyaku, and processed fish cakes in a light, soy-flavoured dashi broth) at reasonable prices in Susukino (すすきの), Sapporo, how about "Koya (古屋)"?
This izakaya (居酒屋) is often visited by players of Nippon Ham Fighters, a professional baseball team located in Sapporo↓

See?! They serve a lot of kinds of yakitori (串焼き) and oden (おでん) at reasonable prices!!!

These are appetizing small dishes↓

Cheers!

Voila!
■Oden Round 1
Eggs, chicken balls, daikon radish, fish cakes, mochi in deep-fried tofu, whelk, and mitsuba
The broth is very light, and we can eat as much as possible!!!

■Yakitori Round 1
Negima (chicken and leek), and seseri (chicken's neck)
Yes! We can enjoy several unique parts of chicken. Sounds wonderful, doesn't it?

■Yakitori Round 2
Ponpochi (bottom part of chicken's tail)
I love this texture! Yummy x 2!!

■Oden Round 2
Takenoko (bonboo shoot), ganmo (deep-fried tofu with vegetables), ebi shinjo (shrimp fritter)
This ganmo (がんも) is very fluffy!!!

■Yakitori Round 3
Mini tomatos with chicken (ミニトマト肉詰)
The juicy tomatoes goes well with the tasty chicken!!

Last but not least, we ordered salmon rice (鮭わっぱ). Actually we always order this at the end of the meal. Let's open it!

Voila!
This is the salmon rice (鮭わっぱ)↓

First we eat it as it is.
The secret broth makes the rice very appetizing!!!

Next we eat it as ochazuke (お茶漬け), rice with tea or broth poured on it. You cannot finish your meal without ordering this!! I really really recommend it!!! Actually almost all guests at this izakaya order it!!

I really recommend Susukino (すすきの), which has a lot of attractive izakaya, and bars!!!

Oden Ippei (おでん一平)| Oden Restaurant Listed by Michelin Guide Hokkaido 2012 | Sapporo

Today we went to "Oden Ippei (おでん一平),  an oden restaurant listed by Michelin Guide Hokkaido 2012.

It is not a big restaurant, always packed with their frequent customers.

Cheers!

Their ingredients are carefully selected, and they always serve the best ones in this area!
This is meat balls and bracken↓
The broth has very sophisticated flavors!

This is deep-fried tofu bag↓

When I broke it....................
Chinese cabbage and other vegetables were simmered for a long time, and yummy x 2!

We also ordered seasonable vegetables!
This is azukina, a mountain vegetable, available for a short time in this season.

This is hanpen (fish cake), which was HUGELY swelled, and very fluffy!!!

Don't forget seafood caught in Hokkaido!
This is surf clam. The chef perfectly heated it, and it was very juicy!!!

This tuna and leek are his art works. It really suites with sake!
BTY, they have only one kind of sake here, carefully selected the best sake!! Please enjoy it with delicious oden!!

Actually I was sooooo surprised at the original cost of this mitsuba (Japanese honewort). He showed us a small box filled with this vegetable. Unbelievably, it is 15,000 yen!!! Wow!

He said, "If everybody orders mitsuba, we are in red, but we also serve oden items whose original costs are not high such as white radish..........."
Then I said, "I'll have white radish!"
He said, "Hahaha! This is on me. Here you are!"
We really enjoyed the conversation with him!

This konnyaku is made of konnyaku potatoes (elephant roots) produced in Shimonita, a famous production site of the ingredient. It tastes very delicious!!!

Gunmo (deep-fried tofu with some vegetables) and eggs are very popular oden items!

Last but not least, we ordered rice with bamboo shoot, a very seasonable vegetable in the spring time!

This miso soup is very tasty!!!

Small egg plants are more than perfect! I love the pickles!!!

When you come here, please enjoy carefully selected ingredients, and wonderful conversation with the owner! It is a so popular restaurant that you should make a reservation in advance!

Homemade Udon "Teraya (寺屋)" | Sanuki Udon & Oden restaurant | Sapporo

The oden* season has come!
It is a must food in the fall and winter time in Japan!!

* Oden is a dish in which a variety of ingredients such as tofu, eggs, white radish, fried fish paste, and potatoes are boiled together in a large pot of seasoned fish broth. Hot mustard is served as a condiment!

This is one of my favorite udon noodle and oden restaurants in Sapporo! We can eat real Sanuki udon here! Sanuki is one of the famous udon sites in Japan. Nothing is better than its very elastic and chewy udon!!!

Let's enter the restaurant!
It is packed with customers during lunch hours! If you don't want to wait for a while, please go there without the hours!

They serve variety of udon.
For example,
Yamakake---udon with grated yam
Kashiwa tenzaru---cold udon with chicken tempura
Kakiage---hot udon with vegetable tempura
Bukkake---Cold udon with some kinds of tempura

Chikuwaten tsukemen---udon with chikuwa (fish sausage) tempura
Kashiwaten tsukemen---udon with chicken tempura
Udon suki---udon cooked with sukiyaki soup and ingredients

I ordered my favorite one that I order whenever I come here! While they boil the homemade udon, I always have some oden! The oden here is very recommendable!
Look at the menu↓
They serve Sanuki oden. Sanuki is, of course, one of the famous udon sites in Japan, but their oden is also popular!

Let me see.......... What should I order????
They serve several kinks of oden such as
Chikuwa---fish sausage
Konnyaku---jelly-like food made from starch
Hiraten---steamed fish paste
Atsuage---deep-fried tofu
Ganmo---deep-fried tofu mixed with thinly sliced vegetables
Nikudango---a kind of meatball
■White radish (September to February only)
Gyu suji---beef gristle

First, I ordered white radish and gyusujii (beef gristle)!

Look at the inside of the radish! Looks very yummy X 2!! They simmer oden over half a day!!!

I also ordered chikuwa (fish sausage), hiraten (steamed fish paste) and tofu
They use chikuwa and hiraten from Sanuki or Kagawa prefecture! I really enjoyed the real ingredients, while being in Hokkaido!

On the seat at the bar, we really had a good time!

Voila!!!
This is my favorite, "kashiwa tenzaru"↓

This is kashiwa or chicken tempura!

It's very HOT!!! I love it!!!

Look at the shinny noodles!! They are very LOOOOONG! Hahaha!
Once you eat their Sanuki udon, you cannot eat others' udon!!! Please try the tasty, tough, chewy texture!!!

You can put this tempura flakes into the udon sauce if you want!

I really love their Sanuki udon!
