Hamanoren (浜のれん)| Oyster Dining | Akkeshi

Akkeshi (厚岸) is famous for its very delicious oysters. Please take a look at the restaurant's curtain. They serve a wide variety of oyster dishes!!! Wow! Wow! Wow!
Let's enter "Hamanoren (浜のれん)"!

It looks like a typical dinning in rural areas, but look at the wall! They have a lot of autographs of celebrities!!!

Voila!!!
They serve a lot of oyster dishes such as grilled oysters, oyster soup, oyster ramen, oyster curry, oyster bowls, deep-fried oysters, raw oysters, and so on.

And I ordered the oyster ramen. Smells very oysters!!!!

The noodles are thinner than the average ones.

The delicious oyster juice is flowing into the soup! Let's drink it in big gulps!! Hahaha!

How plump the oyster is! Yummy x 2!!!

I really love this oyster town very much!

Smoked Oysters (牡蠣の燻製)| Kuroda Suisan (黒田水産) | Akkeshi

Akkeshi (厚岸) is one of the famous fishing sites of oysters in Japan! I really recommend its very fresh oysters, but how about smoked oysters as your souvenirs?
Let's go to the JR Akkeshi station!

Its Kiosk has some kinds of oyster souvenirs.

Have you ever heard oyster monaka (かき最中)(oyster-shaped bean jam wafers) ? Sounds very interesting, isn't it?

Anyway, when you come here, please eat smoked oysters. Tastes super x 2 wonderful!!!

They have a normal version, and

a cheese-in version.

I definitely chose the later ones, because it won the award of the Director-General of Fisheries Agency (水産庁長官賞) at the Processed Seafood Competition of Japan(全国水産加工たべもの展)!!!

See?! It is very very yummy!!!

This is a one day tour of Akkeshi, through which I believe you can fully enjoy the town. How do you like it? Please leave your comment!

①Akkeshi Station
When you arrive at JR Akkeshi Station,

please take a picture with this panel! Yes! Akkeshi is an oyster town!!

②Yabu Soba (藪蕎麦)
Then you should drop by this soba shop in front of the station, and

enjoy oyster soba↓, or an oyster bowl! Yummy x 2!! See the details→

③Cape Aikappu (愛冠岬
Then let's get started with Cape Aikappu!

If you ring the bells with your boyfriend or girl friend, you will be happy forever!

On the way to the cape, you may encounter wildlife such as shika deer

④Benten Shrine (弁天神社)
On the way back to the station area, we can see Benten Shrine from Akkeshi Ohashi Bridge (厚岸大橋). Looks like it is floated on the ocean, but actually it is on Kakijima Island (牡蠣島), and enshrined with Benzaitenza statue (弁財天座像), an important cultural asset of Japan.

⑤Fish Market (漁業組合市場)
Well, well, well, let's enjoy seafood at the fish market, located near the station, too!

Akkeshi is a paradise of seafood such as oysters, scallop, prawns, and so on!

⑥Marine Museum (海事記念館)
Within a walking distance from the fish market, there is Marine Museum.

We can learn the history of Akkeshi and its fisheries.

⑦Conchiglie (コンキリエ)
This roadside station is on the hill, and

we can enjoy the ocean and the townscape!

Let's enter the building. On the first floor, there is a souvenir corner with a wide variety of oyster items.

Personally, I recommend delicious ice cream there↓ See the details→

On the second floor, we can enjoy seafood BBQ

Scallops, oysters, abalone, sea urchin, Pacific saury, and you name it! See the details→

⑧Ujiie Machiaijyo (氏家待合所)
Last but not least, please get an oyster rice box lunch at the dining.

They make this box lunch depending on your train time! I recommend you to make a reservation in advance! See the details→

How do you like the tour?
Please fully enjoy the town if you have chance to visit there!!

Conchiglie (コンキリエ) ② | Roadside Station (道の駅) | Akkeshi

This is the second half of my post on Conchiglie (コンキリエ), a roadside station in Akkeshi.

If you're interested in delicious ice cream and oyster souvenirs sold in this roadside station, please refer to the first half→.

On the second floor, there are two restaurants. One of them is "Restaurant Escal (レストラン エスカル)".

It is famous for its "Emondon (えもん丼)" or oyster bowl!!

The other is "Sumiyaki Aburiya (炭焼 炙屋)", a BBQ restaurant!

It is famous for its "Emon sakamushi (えもん酒蒸し)" , steamed oysters in sake, and "all-you-can-eat oysters". Sounds very appetizing, doesn't it? We chose this BBQ restaurant for lunch.

Let's choose ingredients first!
Of course, the local fresh scallops and oysters are must! We picked up a lot of these! Hahaha!

Look at this corner! I've found something unique!

Whale meat!!!!
This is ginger-and-soy sauce-flavored sei whale (イワシ鯨)!

This is whale bacon!

This is whale smoked jerky!

Wow! This is my favorite!
Do you have any idea which part of whale is used for this bacon?

The answer is..................
saezuri (さえずり) or its tongue! Yummy x 2!
The eastern part of Hokkaido is famous for its whale fishing! I know it's controversial, but the whale meat is very delicious!

 I've found another unique item!

This is shika deer sausage!

I skipped sea urchin, because we ate it a lot yesterday (Hahaha!).

Instead, I picked up a lot of abalone!!! I love it!!

Don't miss Pacific saury caught in this area!

It is a little bit too early to eat delicious fatty Pacific saury, but I really wanted to eat it!

Well, well, well, we headed for the BBQ table with a lot of ingredients!

"Itadakimasu!", which means "let's eat!"

We've learned how to grill oysters, and

why oysters grown here are delicious through the staff and this paper.

 Shall we?
(Sure!!)

Voila!!!
We really enjoyed delicious seafood and vegetables! I love this asparagus and crabs!!!

This scallop is super! It was alive just before it was grilled!!

How about abalone caught off this town?

Its sashimi is wonderful, but I also love grilled ones!!

Yummy x 2!!! No, no, no! It is super yummy x 2!!

As I said, it is a little bit too early to eat Pacific saury................... Please wait until the best season (fall), and don't be greedy like me! Hahaha!

How do you like assari clam? Do we eat too much? (Of course!)

Don't forget very tasty local oysters!!

When the shell opens, it is the best time to eat it!

Have you ever eaten such creamy, milky, juicy, rich and dense oysters like this? We ate them one after another!

I also recommend this chimaki, or steamed rice cake wrapped in a bamboo leaf.

It has soy sauce-flavored tender pork!

See!! Yummy x 2!!
