Kita no Lamp Tei (北のランプ亭)| Seafood BBQ Restaurant | Shiraoi

If you want to enjoy delicious seafood BBQ and hot spring at the same place, I recommend "Kita no Lamp Tei (北のランプ亭)" in Shiraoi (白老)!

This restaurant is just in front of the Pacific Ocean! Perfect location, isn't it?

When it's a beautiful day, it is great to eat lunch at the terrace!

How beautiful the ocean is!!

This is the menu for the lunch time. You must be surprised at a portion for one person.

Voila!!!
These are "Seafood BBQ sets (海鮮炭定食)" for four persons. My guests really enjoyed this delicious seafood caught off this area! The seafood so fresh that we can eat it as sashimi!!

They also ordered a "meat BBQ set (大地の炭焼定食)",

a "sashimi set (お刺身定食), and
(*They are of course caught in the Pacific ocean just in front of the restaurant!!)

a "deep-fired oyster set (かきフライ定食)".

Look at the plump oysters!

Please dip it in the delicious tartar!!! Yummy x 2!!!

This is today's special (おまかせ定食)! How big the seafood and vegetable fritters are!!

I should have ordered this seafood bowl??? Hahaha!

Actually I ordered a "seafood and meat BBQ set (海・山炭焼定食)"because I love meat, too!

Each set comes with rice, salad, miso soup, pickles, and a small dish like this↓ Are these normal side dishes? No, No, No!!!!

Look at the miso soup! It has several asari clams!!!! I love this fresh seafood texture!!!

Please enjoy the fresh ingredients with three kinds of BBQ sauce!

This is Sakhalin surf clam caught off Tomakomai city! How sweet it is! It is so fresh that I made it rare!

The vegetables were also produced in this area!

How about Hokkaido beef? It is very juicy! I love charcoal-broiled fish and meat!!

This home-made bacon is really recommendable!

This scallop was again caught off this area! Would you like to eat it? Please open your month! Hahaha!

We were so happy to eat such delicious local products!

This salmon was the best among all seafood today! It is perfectly fatty!!

This is not the end of our lunch.
Look at the today's special sashimi memu↓ Today they serve smelt sashimi, squid sashimi, HUGE botan prawn sashimi, Pacific saury sashimi, and boiled hairy crabs.

We ordered smelt sasimi (ししゃも刺), because it is very local. Except this area, it is very difficult to get such fresh smelt and eat it as sashimi!!! Actually when it came to our table, the head was still moving a little bit!! Wow! Wow! Wow!

I love it!!! It is super-delicious!!!

This restaurant is very unique! How unique is it? Let's enter the "Natural Hot Spring --Zange no Heya-- (天然かけ流し温泉 懺悔の部屋)"↓

Yes! It has an outdoor hot spring!

This is just in front of the ocean! How comfortable it is!

The hot spring is alkali with salt!

Look at the large amount of natural water!! And guess what? It is free!!!

The time tricked by very slowly here!

Ainu Museum - Poroto Kotan - (アイヌ民族博物館 しらおいポロトコタン)| Shiraoi

Ainu is the indigenous people of Hokkaido with their own culture and language. Several tens of thousands of Ainu still live in Hokkaido and other areas.
An Ainu settlement, originally in Shiraoi's urban district, was moved and restored by Lake Poroto in 1965 as an outdoor museum.

Let's go to the "Ainu Museum - Poroto Kotan - (アイヌ民族博物館 しらおいポロトコタン)"!

Near the entrance, the huge statue of Kotan Korukuru (which means a village chief) welcomes you!

The facility has five cises, thatched houses for Ainu people, and

we can enjoy Ainu cultural performance there!

This is mukkuri, a mouth harp made of bamboo. How beautiful and dynamic the sound is!

This is tonkori, a kind of stringed instrument. I love this gentle sound!

They also sing their lullaby, and perform some of their folk dance! Very interesting! The show lasts for about 20-30 minutes in total.

Look at the ceiling! The salmon is being smoked! Actually one of my tour guests bought this smoked salmon! This used to be a typical reserved food for Ainu during the winter time.

The facility also include a botanical garden, an animal barn, and so on. This is pu, a food storage, built on stilts in order to keep food stuff (dried fish, seafood, and millet) safe from moisture and rats mainly.

Let's go to the museum in the same compound, too!

Some of their kimono is made of bark, and some of their shoes are made of salmon skin...........

We can also learn their rituals, such as Iomante, a bear festival. Please learn how they viewed beers as sacred animals!

Look at Lake Poroto! How beautiful it is! Potoro means lake in Ainu language.

There are some souvenir shops near the entrance. Actually I bought some Ainu embroideries!

This is their typical wood craft! Ainu regard many animals as sacred, and the beer is the chief of all animals. They also believe that their deities can incarnate into beers, and roam the earth to keep an eye on their followers.

Kani Goten (かに御殿)| Fish Market & Seafood Restaurant | Shiraoi

Shiraoi is located along the Pacific Ocean and blessed with delicious seafood. If you want to enjoy a fish market and a seafood restaurant at the same place, how about "Kani Goten (かに御殿)"?
The shop is on Route 36 and we cannot miss this 15-m long beer object on the roof! Hahaha!

The building has two areas; a seafood market on the left and a seafood restaurant on the right.
Look at the large space! We can enjoy local fresh seafood such as crabs, salmon, scallop, abalone and cod roe......

The restaurant serves about 70 kinds of dishes such as sushi, sashimi, ramen, tempura, seafood bowls and so on........

Let's enter it!
This is so huge restaurant that they can accommodate more than 1,000 people here. The space on the 1st floor is for individual customers and the 2nd floor is for group tours.

I ordered a sea urchin set↓

The set includes a small dish of seaweed

and a miso soup.

Look at the main dish; huge amount of sea urchin in egg soup!

Actually I really love fresh sea urchin!

I put a lot of sea urchin on hot rice and ate it! Yummy x 2!!

Of course my guests enjoyed seafood here very much, too.
This is a salmon row bowl↓ They also serve small seafood bowls so that we can enjoy several kinds of dishes for lunch!

If you like crab, how about this scab rice?

Do you like both ramen and sushi? In that case, I recommend a ramen & sushi set.

You can enjoy your favorite items at the same time!

Would you like to take out sushi? They serve sushi lunch boxes↓

We really enjoyed freash seafood here in Shiraoi!
