Reasonable but Delicious Sushi@Sushi-Dokoro Sushimoto in Monbetsu

I'm in Monbetsu, a port town along the Okhotsk Sea.

I should try delicious seafood, especially sushi!! I went to a sushi restaurant, "Sushimoto (鮨元)" in the downtown.

I prefer seating at a counter seat so that I can enjoy chatting with a sushi master! Actually he is very friendly and we talked about local news such as flower information around here. He added that he cooks sushi with local ingredients. Sounds perfect to me!

I ordered a "supreme sushi set (特上)". I was wondering what kind of sushi the chef would serve me..........

First, they served this miso soup with local shrimp! I love it!

The master cooks two pieces of sushi each time very rhythmically.

■Queen crab & Botanebi prawn
Botanebi is a very local prawn and it was very BIG!

■Salmon and Ohyo flatfish
Ohyo is a kind of flatfish which is available only in the northern part of Japan! It is not very fatty, but very rich!

■Tuna and squid
I love this squid caught just in front of this restaurant. It's very fresh!

■Sea urchin and salmon roe
The urchin was naturally very sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Should I order one more piece???

■Raw queen crab and Sakhalin surf clam
I like raw crab better than boiled one because it has richer taste. It was very fresh. That's why they can serve crab raw!!

The Sakhalin surf clam is also a very local clam. When you come to Hokkaido, please try it! I really recommend it!

Do you have any idea how much the supreme sushi set is? It is only 2,200 yen!!!!! It's very reasonable!!! If you eat the same set in Sapporo, it is, I guess, much more expensive ! I love Monbetsu! I could order another set :)

I really enjoyed sushi here in "Sushi-Dokoro Sushimoto"!

Cherry Blossoms@Okhotsk Forest Park & Fried rice with Crab Meat@Mary-san-no-Ki in Monbetsu

When I come to Monbetsu for business, I usually stay at Monbetsu Central Hotel, which has many unique services such as free-rental-bicycle service! I've decided to go to my favorite cafe by bicycle this time!

First, I went along the coastal line, feeling the sea breeze!!!

Monbetsu is famous for seafood such as crab! That's why there are a lot of crab restaurants in this city.

Go up to a long uphill near the hotel, and you will find "Okhotsk Forest Park" on the way to the cafe.

Cherry blossoms here were in full bloom at the end of May, which is about 2 month later than the flower season in Tokyo.! See!! They are very beautiful!!

Go up to the same street further, you will find a tower at the top of Mt. Daisen! From the observatory, you will see a beautiful landscape of Monbetsu city!

Turn right when you find the Okhotsk Sky Tower and go straight! You will find this restaurant, "Mary-san-no-Ki" on your left.

This restaurant is very famous among local people here. Fried rice with a loooooooooooooooooot of crab meat is No.1 popular item on the menu.! Of course I ordered it!

First, they served salad and soup.

Here comes the fried rice. Look at the crab meat! They use local crab. I'm soooooooooooo happy to be here!

First bite!

Second bite!

Third bite!

See!!! There are a lot of crab meat! If you pay additional 300 yen, you will have a bigger portion of fried rice with crab!

I really recommend this crab rice!

Great Seafood & Beautiful Sunrise in Monbetsu

I'm now in Monbetsu, a coastal city, in the eastern part of Hokkaido.

I can see the Okhotsk Sea from the hotel I'm staying!
Great location, isn't it?

I've found a cute manhole cover! Look at this! It has a pretty fur seal!

First, I visited "Dezuka-Suisan",  a kamaboko, or deep-fried fish paste, shop near the hotel.

There are a lot of  prefried kamaboko in the shop.

First you pick up your favorite ones,

and they deep-fry the paste so that we can enjoy hooooooooooooooooot kamaboko!

I chose
・kamaboko with sausage
・kamaboko with octopus
・kamaboko with crab meat
・kamadoko with cheese

See!!!

It's HOT and DELICIOUS!

Then I went to a fish store near the kamaboko shop and enjoyed chatting with the owner for a while! I love fish and seafood! The owner said, "Plz come to my seafood restaurant adjacent to this fish store." Sounds great!

This is his restaurant, "Yotteke-Marutomi".

This is a Japanese-style izakaya!

I ordered a seafood bowl set! Look at this freshwater clam soup!
It's HUGE!

I love seafood!

Especially,
GIGANTICbotanebi prawn

Do you like the inside of the head shell? I love it! It goes well with sake or beer!

■scallop

■salmon

■Japanese flounder

I wasn't tired yesterday, but  I went to bed very early and got up at 3:30AM in order to see a beautiful sunrise this morning! The clouds are a little thick....................

But look at a wonderful sunrise!!!!!!

The sun is rising!

Actually, I'll come back here again next week. I hope I'll be able to see a beautiful sunrise without any thick clouds at that time! Wish me luck!!!!
