Hokkaido Ice Pavilion (北海道アイスパビリオン)| Kamikawa

I'm in Kamikawa between Daisetsuzan National Park and Asahikawa with my tour guests.
"Hokkaido Ice Pavilion" in the town is the first museum in the world to provide the chilling experience of Hokkaido through a whole year!

Look at the snow man in front of the facility!
In North America and Europe, they make their snowmen using three snow balls. However, in Japan, snowmen are made using only two spheres. One for the head and one for the body. Maybe Japanese people have shorter lower bodies? Hahahaha:-)

Before entering the facility, we do a short experiment; painting the pic on special paper, which reacts the temperature. If it's hot, the colors are gone and if it's cold, the colors appear again.
We were already excited, thinking how the color would change inside of the facility!!!

Let's enter the pavilion! Don't forget this detergent bottle! We'll do the second experiment in the -20C room!

Going through the entrance area,

first enjoy the hexagonal labyrinth! Why hexagonal? Because the snow crystal is hexagonal!

After the fun corner, we prepared for the -20C room. Please wear a winter coat here!

Are you ready to go to the winter world in Hokkaido????

Let's take a wet towel to do the third experiment!

Voila!!!!
Welcome to the winter world!!

The inside of the Ice Pavilion is kept at a constant temperature of
-20C. Displayed inside are numerous icicles, many of them that took over ten years to form.

Look at the wet towel. It stands in such a law temperature!

Let's go down stairs. The steps are so slippery. Watch your steps!!

We enjoyed making bobbles from the soapy water.

It is very cold here that you can "catch" the bobbles!!! How interesting!!!

My tour guests were so impressed with the icicles!

We, local people, make a snow hut for fun in the winter time like this↓ It looks like an igloo, doesn't it? But actually the ways to make the hut and igloos are different.

How cute the snowmen!! This is one of the popular photo spots!

This is the most exciting corner!!!
The highlight of this attraction is a spot where you can experience the mind-blowing temperature of -41C, the lowest temperature ever recorded in Japanese history.
-41C!!!!!!!
Do you want to try it?
(Sure!!!)

We were so excited in the room!!

I'm sorry this pic is not good enough to see tiny crystals in the air, but you can see a diamond dust phenomena in the special room; ground-level cloud composed of tiny ice crystals with a temperature well below freezing

Do you know cliones, which live under drift ice? You can observe the creatures in the special tank.

Hokkaido is surrounded by three kinds of ocean, one of which is the Sea of Okhotsk. During the middle of the winter, the sea is covered with ice!
We called the creatures "sea angels". The angels live under the ice.

After the tour, we enjoyed free hot tea service.

Look at the pics!
Some of the visitors took their pics in the -41C room like this↓ Unbelievable! They are almost naked!!!

I love this pic↓ They are the youngest challengers in the coldest room!!!

Why don't you enjoy Hokkaido winter in this facility? Let's have fun!!
I recommend this facility especially for people from  southern countries!!!

Just for reference, there is a ice cream stand in front of the Hokkaido Ice Pavilion↓

and they sell very delicious ice cream!!!

I really recommend "Shiroi-Koibito soft ice cream (白い恋人ソフトクリ―ム)", one of whose ingredient is the same white chocolate for Shiro Koibito Chocolate cookies (白い恋人).

Koubou Kato Ramen (工房 加藤らーめん)| Asahikawa Ramen Village

I came to Asahikawa Ramen Village again!
I love ramen very much!!
If you'd like to know the general information about this ramen complex, plz click my previous post→here!

We chose this ramen shop today. The main restaurant has a long history, but the new branch here opened on 28th of June, 2011! We have to try it!

The flagship ramen here is "aging soy sauce flavored ramen", but they have several other varieties such as "rich-taste aging soy sauce ramen", "hot miso ramen", miso ramen", "salt flavored ramen", "aging soy sauce ramen with vegetables" and so on.

You can see the restaurant history↓ The first shop, originally soba (buckwheat noodle) restaurant, was founded in 1947,  and created the prototype of Asahikawa-style ramen; thick curly noodles in soy sauce flavored pork bone soup.

This is a menu↓

I first ordered "char siu & mayonnaise bowl"; bowl of rice topped with minced naganegi onion and chopped grilled pork mixed with mayonnaise. I love it! It really  goes well with ramen!

This is "aging soy sauce flavored ramen", the most popular ramen in this restaurant!
They use seafood and pork bones to make broth and the combination was perfect! This is the origin of Asahikawa ramen!

Santouka (山頭火)| Asahikawa Ramen Village

I came to Asahikawa Ramen Village again!
I love ramen very much!!
If you'd like to know the general nformation about this ramen complex, plz click here!

Today I chose "Santouka", famous for its tonkotsu (pork bone broth) and soft juicy char siu (pork slices)!

I prefer the counter seats so that I can see the ramen chefs cooking ramen just in front of me!

We ordered almost all ramens on the menu here!!!
Wow wow wow!!

■Salt flavor ramen with specially soft char siu
This is the the limited number of ramen. We were so lucky that we were able to eat it!!!!

The set of soup & ramen and the topping including the specially-tender char siu are separately served like this.

I ♡ meat! Hahahaha :)

You can put the sliced pork into the soup or eat it separately as you like.

■Ramen topped with motsuni (cooked tender cattle giblets)
If you like motsuni, plz try it! Tender motsuni really suits with this soup!
This is my choice!

■Salt flavor ramen
It is one of the popular ramen in this shop. If you've never tried its ramen here, plz try this one first! This tonkotsu broth is I think a kind of art work!

■Hot miso ramen
It is named hot, but hot for Japanese people. You know, it's mildly hot for people from the rest of the world :)
I came here with some Thai  people and surprisingly (or naturally??), they added chill powder to this ramen!!!!

■Miso flavor ramen
Miso flavor ramen is the most popular ramen in Hokkaido although soy sauce flavor is the typical ramen in Asahikawa.
We enjoyed compareing normal miso and hot miso.

The conclusion is............both of them are recommendable!

■Soy sauce flavor ramen
When you come to Asahikawa, you should eat soy sauce flavor!
The soup is very rich, but you do NOT feel the soup oily!

I'll give you some great information!!!
30th of every month is "a Day for Santouka", this ramen restaurant!

This is a special discount menu for  the day this month.
You can eat soy flavor ramen and char siu bowl at the half price on May 30th! Don't miss the wonderful chance!

They have branches in other countries including the United Sates, Canada, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Plz find one of the branches in your country and try one of the recommendable ramen restaurants in Hokkaido!

Asahikawa Ramen Village (旭川ラーメン村)

Do you like ramen?

Ramen is a Japanese noodle dish. It consists of Chinese-style wheat noodles served in a meat- or fish-based broth, often flavored with soy sauce or miso, and uses toppings such as sliced pork, kamaboko, green onions, and occasionally corn.

Almost every locality in Japan has its own variation of ramen, from the tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen of Kyushu to the miso ramen of Hokkaido.

Eight popular, long-standing ramen diners from the city of Asahikawa are gathered here at this ramen theme park established in 1996 to excite Asahikawa ramen lovers.

The current lineup of diners is Asahikawa Ramen Aoba, Asahikawa Ramen Ittetsu-an Matsuda, Asahikawa Ramen Ishida, Ramen Shop Tenkin, Ramen Santoka, Ramen Village Saijo, Original Asahikawa Ramen Ichikura, Koubou Kato Ramen, and Asahikawa Ramen Baikoken.

There is a big ramen object in the village. It is taller than I!!!!

Anyway..............
Asahikawa ramen is an original Hokkaido ramen hailing from Sapporo that fuses all sorts of noodle cuisine. Its wavy noodles curl around in the dense, hot and oily broth made from pork bone and seafood. Mini servings are available in addition to regulars, allowing you to enjoy and compare the taste of EVERY shop's noodles.

Today, we chose "Saijo".

There are several ramens on the menu, but I recommend Ukokkei (silky fowl) ramen, through which you will become healthier and more beautiful.

■Ukokkei ramen (salt flavor) named Kuroshio (Black Current) ramen

Their ramen features a light and rich broth, cooked while remaining sensitive to health, with simmered whole silky fowls and carefully selected water.

They've captured the victory in the salt flavor category of the Asahikawa Ramen Competition.

Just for reference.....
I'll show you some other shops here!

This is "Santoka", one of the most popular ramen shops in Asahikawa! Its tonkotsu (pork bone) broth is great!!!!!

■Hot miso ramen
It is named hot, but hot for Japanese people. You know, it's mildly hot for people from the rest of the country :)

■ Soy sauce ramen
I love it!!

The sliced pork is the best of the best! It's juicy and tender!

The noodle is not very wavy.

Gyoza (Japnanese dumplings or jiao-zi)

Typical Japanese gyoza is fried like this.

If you want to eat miso ramen, I recommend "Baikoken".

■Miso ramen
It soup is very rich and its menma (bamboo shoots) is very thick!!!
Plz enjoy noodles with a lot of bean sprout!

Its noodles are not very wavy.

If you like to try the orthodox Asahikawa ramen, plz go to "Koubou Kato Ramen".

The first shop, originally soba (buckwheat noodle) restaurant, was founded in 1947,  and created the prototype of Asahikawa-style ramen; thick curly noodles in soy sauce flavored pork bone soup.

 ■Char siu & mayonnaise bowl
This is a bowl of rice topped with minced naganegi onion and chopped grilled pork mixed with mayonnaiseI love it! It really  goes well with ramen!

Aging soy sauce flavored ramen
This is the most popular ramen in this restaurant!
They use seafood and pork bones to make broth and the combination was perfect! This is the origin of Asahikawa ramen!

This ramen village has a souvenir corner and you can buy take-out ramen etc.

But if you love ice cream, plz enjoy Yumabi Melon soft ice cream here!
